Design & Features
Slim Design
The 2022 Honda CRF450R has an even slighter frame than ever before, being 70 mm slimmer than its previous model. This creates a dirt bike that is even more able to be quick and agile out on the track.
Short & Light Seat
Just like the overall design of the bike is slimer, so is the seat both shorter and lighter. The seat is 10 mm lower at the rear to help with added movement, especially useful when trying to get any edge you can in a race.
Titanium Fuel Tank
Every ounce of weight counts when trying to outduel your competition, and the CRF450R intends to keep weight down as much as possible. The fuel tank is lightweight thanks to its titanium build, which is also thinner than the previous plastic tank, and further works to add more space and to centralize the fuel mass.
Performance
Power
Peak power above 5,000 RPM and a better low-RPM torque feel combines for terrific improved performance. Intake efficiency is strengthened due to a large airbox that connects to the 46 mm throttle body, also providing great use of the latent vaporization in the inlet ports. A change from 30 degrees to 60 degrees has been put in place on the injector angle, which helps to strengthen intake efficiency, cooling of the charge and throttle feel by pushing the fuel to the butterfly valve.
Hydraulic Clutch
A high peak of power demands a clutch to match. This smooth clutch has had its capacity improved by 27%, along with an extra plate and spring to improve its power transfer ability and ability to hold up for a longer period of time. Clutch slip has been reduced by 85% at its peak amount of power.
Honda Selectable Torque Control
Honda Selectable Torque Control improves traction while cutting down on rear wheel spin. There’s 3 settings + off, so you can easily adjust your bike to the traction at hand, and receive the optimal performance that you desire.
Engine Model Select
Change engine power delivery with just a simple press of your thumb. This engine mode select button is simply located on your handlebars for quick access. You have the option between Standard, Smooth and Aggressive, ready for any track condition.
Chassis & Suspension
Strong Frame
The frame of the CRF450R has been updated for the year, intending to cut down on weight and improve its cornering strength. This creates a lighter bike thanks to its slimmer main spars and its redesigned subframe. The bike also features new chassis dynamics with a reduction of lateral rigidity to improve speed, traction, steering and cornering.
Upgraded Suspension
The 49 mm Showa USD coil-spring fork has been revalved and lengthened by 5 mm to improve the cornering ability of the bike. Rigidity of the axle clamps has been increased as well, while the Showa rear shock’s main piston valve was broadened for a better response and absorption through the roughest of terrain.
Efficient Exhaust Ports
The exit of the exhaust ports are oval to help improve efficiency. A single downpipe muffler has replaced the twin exhaust to save on space. Further, the downpipe has been brought in 74mm closer to the centre line, which helps to improve rider comfort and driving dynamics.
